SEOUL, Jun. 17 (Korea Bizwire) – In a vibrant display of community spirit and creativity, Seoul residents donned handmade masks and joined a lively parade along the car-free Jamsugyo Bridge, seeking a break from the ordinary.
The “Mask Parade on Car-Free Jamsugyo Bridge” took place at 3 p.m. on June 16. The 1.5-kilometer round-trip march was originally planned for Children’s Day in May but had been postponed due to rain.
Leading the procession was a 55-member naval brass band playing trumpets, horns and tubas. They were followed by giant Gulliver dolls, stilt-walking clowns and the 10-member percussion troupe Rapercussion.
Any citizen wearing a mask could join the parade line. Some made masks at craft booths along the bridge, while others borrowed elaborate disguises in the style of TV’s “King of Mask Singer.”
After the parade concluded at 5 p.m., a “Classic Concert on the Bridge” featured performances by the jazz band JINS, the crossover pop opera trio DIONE, and the pop opera male duo DUETTO.
“For families, friends and couples seeking amusement this weekend, the Mask Parade at the Car-Free Jamsugyo Bridge Festival proved an entertaining excursion,” said Joo Yong-tae, head of the Seoul Metropolitan Government’s Future Hangang Bureau, which oversees policies along the Han River.
