SEOUL, Dec. 19 (Korea Bizwire) – South Koreans will soon be able to benefit from a new service that analyzes their usage patterns to recommend optimal smartphone plans, according to an announcement by the Ministry of Science and ICT on December 18.
The initiative was approved along with four other regulatory exemptions during the 38th New Technology and Services Review Committee meeting. The service is expected to launch in the first half of 2024.
Starting in March 2025, users will have the right to ask their telecom providers to transfer their usage data to specialized personal information management institutions. These institutions can then analyze the data to recommend the most cost-effective phone plans based on actual usage patterns.
In addition to the phone plan recommendation service, the committee approved several other innovative services. Pharmacies will now be able to receive, view, and store electronic prescriptions through the National Health Insurance Service, eliminating the need to maintain paper prescriptions. The government expects this change to reduce operational costs and inconvenience for pharmacies while promoting the wider adoption of electronic prescriptions.
The committee also expanded the scope of AI-assisted veterinary telemedicine. Previously limited to eye conditions, veterinarians can now use AI for remote diagnosis of skin, dental, and joint conditions. The number of animal hospitals permitted to offer these services will increase to a maximum of 100 facilities.
“Through our regulatory sandbox, we continue to introduce services that innovate daily life,” said Science and ICT Minister Yoo Sang-im. “We will ensure that new services can enter the market quickly in the future.”
