SEOUL, Aug. 26 (Korea Bizwire) — LG Electronics said Tuesday it will roll out its upgraded artificial intelligence home platform, LG ThinQ AI, across Europe in September, marking a major expansion of its connected appliance ecosystem.
The company has long offered European customers remote control and Internet-of-Things (IoT) connectivity through its original ThinQ service. But with the rapid adoption of AI-powered appliances, LG is upgrading the platform to ThinQ AI, which bundles new features aimed at personalization, energy efficiency and predictive maintenance.
At the core are two services: ThinQ UP, which allows software-based upgrades to existing appliances, and ThinQ Care, which monitors usage, energy consumption and potential malfunctions in real time. Through these services, consumers can add functions without buying new machines.
For instance, a pet owner can update a washer and dryer with an allergy-reducing pet-care cycle, while summer wardrobes can be better preserved with expanded fabric-specific drying options.
Since its debut in 2022, ThinQ UP has surpassed 20 million downloads, with connected devices via the ThinQ app increasing by more than 40 percent year-over-year. ThinQ Care, meanwhile, enables customers to identify issues remotely and receive guidance or expedited service without a technician’s visit.
The new platform will also integrate lifestyle-oriented tools such as Smart Routines, which synchronize multiple devices to fit daily patterns; Smart Pairing, which links washer data to dryers for optimal settings; and AI Recipe, which provides cooking guidance from uploaded food images.
LG is tailoring functions for specific European markets. In Spain, a new Fresh Keeper feature will reduce wrinkles with automatic drum rotations after wash cycles, while Germany and France will see an AI Saving Mode that analyzes household routines to optimize energy use.
The company said it plans to extend ThinQ AI’s availability to Asia and Latin America in the coming months.
“Even after purchase, customers should be able to continuously upgrade and manage their appliances with ease,” said Ryu Jae-cheol, head of LG’s Home Solutions division. “ThinQ AI is designed to deliver an ever-evolving experience in AI-powered living.”
