SEOUL, Sept. 8 (Korea Bizwire) — Kiwoom Heroes infielder Song Sung-mun has been voted South Korean baseball’s top player for August.
The Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) on Monday announced Song as the Player of the Month for August. This is Song’s first monthly award in his 11-year KBO career.
Song is also the first Heroes player to win this prize since Lee Jung-hoo for June 2022.
In August, Song led all players with 42 hits, 28 runs scored and a .726 slugging percentage, while ranking second with a .396 batting average and third with a .463 on-base percentage.
He was fourth with eight home runs and fifth with 22 RBIs, while tying for fifth with six steals.
On Aug. 15, Song launched his 20th home run of the season to become the first member of the 20-20 club in 2025. He has 24 homers and 23 steals through Sunday.
Song collected 10 out of 35 votes from members of the Korea Baseball Writers Association, with the LG Twins starter Anders Tolhurst leading the way with 17 votes. However, Song led all candidates by earning 214,296 out of 439,635 votes in online fan voting, while Tolhurst only had 71,391 votes.
Those voting totals were converted into 38.66 points for Song, 6.25 points better than Tolhurst.
Song plans to ask the Heroes to post him for Major League Baseball clubs after this season. He will be represented by ISE Baseball, a Chicago-based agency that once counted former Heroes star and current Atlanta Braves shortstop Kim Ha-seong as its client.
Song will receive a trophy and 3 million won (US$2,160) in prize money. Shinhan Bank, the league’s title sponsor, will donate 2 million won to Song’s alma mater, Hongeun Middle School in Seoul, in the player’s name.
