SEOUL, Nov. 17 (Korea Bizwire) — LG Display is set to supply ultra-large vehicle displays for Mercedes-Benz’s upcoming electric vehicle lineup, solidifying what both companies describe as a deepening “innovation partnership” in the fast-growing automotive electronics sector.

According to industry officials on Sunday, LG Display will provide a 40-inch display for the 2026 Mercedes-Benz GLC EV, which is expected to debut in North America and Europe in the first half of next year.

The display is based on oxide thin-film transistor (TFT) LCD technology—marking the first time the next-generation, high-resolution, low-power tech has been applied to an automotive screen. The unit is expected to be integrated into Mercedes’ next-generation MBUX Hyperscreen infotainment system.

LG Display’s relationship with Mercedes-Benz stretches back two decades, starting with a vehicle-display collaboration in 2004. Since 2020, the company has also supplied P-OLED (plastic OLED) panels capable of flexible, curved designs for premium Mercedes models.

The latest development comes on the heels of Mercedes-Benz CEO Ola Källenius’s visit to Seoul this week, during which he met leaders from LG Electronics, LG Energy Solution, LG Display, and LG Innotek to discuss expanded strategic cooperation. At the meeting, Källenius referred to LG as “the innovation partner we turn to whenever we try something new.”

LG Display declined to comment on specifics of the deal, citing customer confidentiality.

The move underscores LG Group’s broader push into the automotive electronics business—a key growth pillar as global automakers race to reimagine the cockpit experience for the EV era.
