HADONG, Jul. 7 (Korea Bizwire)A safety drone that can detect human thermal energy to locate individuals in danger flew over Cheonghak-dong, one of Korea’s traditional villages, on July 6.

The 20 million won (US$ 17,730) drone was donated by telecommunications carrier KT to this village full of traditional scholars and institutions, as part of the company’s bid to transform the area into a smart town connected with beacon and drone networks, and to raise the village’s traditional value to another level.

With the help of KT personnel, Kim Ok-sik, head of the village council, has learned how to control the drone, which transmits high-resolution video in real-time.

It is expected that during emergency situations, the drone will help locate individuals trapped in floods or by fire.

KT also transformed the village’s small two-story library into a smart library with cutting-edge gadgets and solutions, such as electronic boards that transfer writing to anyone who’s connected to a network.

KT has also installed a network of 200 beacon gadgets at 121 spots in the village.

The network sends various messages concerning tour information or safety issues such as ‘snake warning’ to visitors with an app called ‘Cheonghak-dong Application’.

KT also donated three devices, called ‘YoDoc,’ which can automatically screen urine test papers for around 10 diseases such as diabetes.
