INCHEON, Oct. 7 (Korea Bizwire) – A man who secretly provided women with information about their husbands’ and boyfriends’ visits to red-light districts, earning millions of won in the process, has been sentenced to a suspended prison term.

On October 6, Judge Hong Jun-seo of the Incheon District Court announced a verdict of one year in prison, suspended for two years, for a 40-year-old man identified only as “A.”

The defendant was charged with violating the Act on Promotion of Information and Communications Network Utilization and Information Protection.

In addition to the suspended sentence, the court ordered A to complete 160 hours of community service and pay a fine of 23 million won.

Prosecutors alleged that from March to November of last year, A received approximately 140 million won from around 2,000 female clients in exchange for providing information about their male partners’ visits to establishments associated with the sex trade.

The investigation revealed that A collaborated with an acquaintance, identified as “B,” who had previously operated such establishments. B allegedly posted advertisements on women-only online communities, offering to “check your man’s history of visiting sex trade businesses for 50,000 won per case.”

A managed the financial aspects of the operation, receiving payments from clients through his personal bank account.

According to the court, B obtained the personal information through an application used by sex trade business operators to share customer visit records and personal details.

While Hong stated that “based on the evidence, including the bank account records of client payments, the charge of disclosing others’ secrets obtained through information and communications networks is proven,” he also noted that the defendant’s role was not that of the primary instigator in determining the sentence.
