INCHEON, Jan.29 (Korea Bizwire) – The response time of fire trucks and ambulances has been shortened greatly due to ubiquitous technology.
The Incheon Fire Department reported the results of its ‘119 Shortcut Finder’ program.
The program ran for the past year and a half. It is a system that finds the shortest route from the location of departure to a fire site, based on CCTV footage and real-time traffic information.
Through a device installed inside a fire truck and ambulance, videos can be shared interactively with the 119 situation room, making it easier to get to the fire site and shortening the time needed to get there.
Currently one third of the fire trucks and ambulances in Incheon have been fitted with the system, and after discussion with the Ministry of Public Safety and Security, the program will be expanded across the nation.
Authorities from the fire department explain that if one out of the three vehicles that move as a team (two fire trucks and one ambulance) has the system, the whole team can find the shortest route to a fire site.
Officials commented that the system shortened response timed by 20 percent. They anticipate that the system will help responders treat patients during the ‘Golden Hour’ in urgent cases.
