SEOUL, March 8 (Korea Bizwire) — Hyundai Mobis Co., South Korea’s biggest auto parts company, is joining hands with local IT firms to develop a software platform for automobiles.
Hyundai Mobis announced Sunday that it had formed a business consortium with 13 IT firms including LG Uplus, a major South Korean telecom operator.
The company aims to create a software platform that integrates a variety of software needed to run a vehicle, with each program standardized, shared, and modularized for the platform.
The consortium will work on three areas: self-driving technology (recognition algorithms, AI computing), infotainment (web cloud services, personal recognition solutions, graphics solutions), and platform standardization.
Based on a system platform developed by Hyundai Mobis, other members of the consortium will add their own unique software technology.
Hyundai Mobis will also set up a joint research organization that includes the R&D team as well as staff from planning, purchasing, and operations to strengthen merchandising.
