GANGWON, SOUTH KOREA, May 26 (Korea Bizwire) – Donghae City in Gangwon Province is holding a matchmaking event for 32 civil servants working for local governments tomorrow.
With South Korea facing years of low marriage and birth rates, Donghae is taking matters into its own hands by becoming a matchmaker.
Including a variety of events such as speed dating and group or couple challenges, the matchmaking event will see 12 male and 12 female local government employees, who were recommended by seven different branches of local government including City Hall last month, mingle with each other in the hopes of finding a match.
During the event, participants will get to know each other naturally as members of local government first, which will also give them an opportunity to build a network of public servants.
“The matchmaking event for civil servants is expected to nurture pride in the local community and create a more marriage-friendly culture in the public service sector, as well as build a network of members of public organizations,” Kim Do-gyeong, director of administration, said.
Gangneung City is also holding a similar event next month, where some 50 male and female hopefuls from 77 different local government branches and public organizations will meet to get to know each other while baking cakes and making coffee together.
City officials said they plan to hold the event on a regular basis.
