SEOUL, Nov. 3 (Korea Bizwire) – Progressive civic groups plan to stage massive rallies this weekend in protest of President Donald Trump’s planned visit to Seoul next week, the organizers said Friday.
At least 1,000 citizens will gather for an anti-Trump rally in Jongno, central Seoul, according to the groups. Similar protests will take place concurrently in other major cities, including Gwangju, Daejeon, Ulsan and Changwon.
Trump will visit Seoul on Nov. 7-8 for a summit with President Moon Jae-in over North Korea’s nuclear threats, the bilateral free trade pact and other pending issues.
Progressive groups here have blamed the U.S. president’s hard-line policy for intensifying the tension on the Korean Peninsula.
They have also called on the Moon government to take bold measures such as the suspension of joint military drills with the U.S. to bring Pyongyang to the negotiating table.
Pro-America rallies, led by conservative groups, are also expected to take place on the same day, welcoming Trump’s visit and in support of the Korea-U.S. alliance.
