SEOUL, March 29 (Korea Bizwire) – IBM’s Watson artificial intelligence (AI) system has selected globally ‘hot’ products, with the world’s interest in AI increasing following the epic Go match between Google Deep Mind’s AlphaGo and professional Go player Lee Se-dol.
Previously, there have been many cases in which consumer reports, journals or market assessment bodies selected products that reflected the latest trends, but this marks the first time that AI has played a role in brand evaluation.
According to IBM’s ‘Watson Trend’ mobile application, AI supercomputer Watson gave one of Samsung’s televisions 100 points, which was the highest score among all of the top brands.
Watson analyzed thousands of responses for various products written by internet users on SNS, blogs, forums, comments and product reviews. Consumer trends were read through the data, and outlooks for future trends were created.
Focusing on the fact that consumers also reference reviews of certain products before deciding purchasing them, Watson even analyzed the tone of the phrases, and read between the lines.
Watson Trend is an application that helps consumers with product purchase choices. It covers items from various fields such as IT, home electronics, apparel, accessories and food.
Currently, Samsung is at the top of the trend list, accumulating 100 points since mid-January.
Watson also quotes comments from customer Twitter accounts or blogs, saying that “Samsung’s 60-inch smart 4K UHD TV has excellent resolution, and the 50-inch LED Smart HD TV is an exquisite product”.
A TV from Sony ranks second on the top trend list after Samsung, with 75 points. It was followed by a GoPro camera (36 points), a Sony camera (34 points), a Sharp TV (33 points) and the Apple Watch (29 points).
