SEOUL, June 21 (Korea Bizwire) — One of the U.S. minor league teams is wearing a new uniform designed with Korean characters.
The Montgomery Biscuits, the Tampa Bay Rays’ Double-A affiliate, announced via their official website that the team would “play as the Montgomery Kimchi on July 16 in celebration of Korean Heritage Night,” revealing a specially designed uniform for the occasion.
Below the term ‘Montgomery’ inscribed on the orange uniform is printed the word ‘kimchi’ in larger-sized Korean letters. The uniform numbers are placed on top of a special logo designed after kimchi.
“Why Kimchi?” the team said. “We believe food is the gateway into culture. Just as biscuits are a mainstay on a southern table, kimchi is a staple in Korean cuisine.”
Montgomery, the capital city of Alabama, is home to a Hyundai Motor Co.’s manufacturing plant as well as numerous subcontractors, resulting in a sizeable Korean population.
