Asia’s Top Olympic Body Says Continent ‘Proud’ of PyeongChang Winter Games

SEOUL, Feb. 27 (Korea Bizwire) – Asia’s top Olympic body said Tuesday the continent can “feel proud” of PyeongChang’s successful hosting of the Winter Games.

In a statement, Sheikh Ahmad Al Fahad Al Sabah, head of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA), congratulated PyeongChang on its “excellent organization” of the 2018 Winter Olympics, which concluded Sunday.

“The whole of Asia can feel proud about the success of the 2018 Winter Olympic Game in Korea,” Sheikh Ahmad said. “And this demonstrates the commitment of the Asian continentto develop winter sports and promote the values of the Olympic Games.”

The OCA noted that 451 Asian athletes represented 19 countries at PyeongChang 2018, and they won a combined 10 gold, 19 silver and 11 bronze medals.

South Korea was the top Asian nation in the medal standings with five gold, eight silver and four bronze medals, putting it in seventh place overall.

Japan was next in 11th place with four gold, five silver and four bronze medals.

China, whose capital city Beijing will host the next Winter Olympics in 2022, got one gold, six silver and two bronze to finish 16th.
