SEOUL, Jul. 10 (Korea Bizwire) — Visitors to Dokdo Island will soon be able to mail letters and postcards on their stopover.
The Cultural Heritage Administration’s Cultural Properties Committee recently gave conditional approval to a proposal from the Gyeongbuk Regional Communication Office to install a mailbox on Dokdo.
There is currently a mailbox on Dokdo in front of the barracks for the coast guard, but is not accessible to the public.
“Although it could have a slight impact on the landscape, the potential location of the new mailbox is an artificially constructed concrete area,” said members of the committee.
“It is reasonable to implement the project as it is meaningful.”
Ministry officials reported that mailbox will be red with the image of Dokdo Island. In addition, the last ship to Dokdo Island from Ulleungdo Island will collect the letters from the letterbox every day.
