SEOUL, Jan. 19 (Korea Bizwire) — A drunk person who drove his car 40 kilometers from Seoul to Incheon was caught by his cellphone’s automatic reporting system, police said Wednesday.
Incheon Jungbu Police Station announced that it had apprehended a 30-year-old man for driving under the influence.
The man has been charged with drunk driving at 4 a.m. on Wednesday and running into a traffic light.
The automatic reporting system on the man’s cellphone was responsible for notifying the police of his drunk driving.
Certain models of cell phones have automatic reporting systems in place that send out a distress call to emergency medical agencies and the police when they detect a strong impact or other hazardous events.
“The cell phone user is not responding after a car collision,” the man’s cellphone notified 119, the fire and ambulance emergency number, via an automatic voice message.
The police soon received a request from the fire station’s situation room to jointly respond to the event.
The police breathalyzed the man, which revealed that the man’s blood alcohol concentration level exceeded 0.08 percent, more than enough to revoke his driver’s license.
Investigations showed that the drunk man drove 40 kilometers from Yeouido in Seoul towards Incheon.
