BUSAN, April 21 (Korea Bizwire) — The city government of Busan said Thursday it would provide free pet insurance to people who adopt abandoned dogs.
The policy will offer one year of coverage to those who adopt a dog from a local animal protection or adoption center.
The insurance will cover 60 percent of the cost of surgery and medical treatment, up to 10 million won (US$7,530) per year.
If the adopted dog injures a person or another animal, the insurance will provide up to 5 million won in compensation.
According to the city government, last year saw around 6,000 animals abandoned in Busan, half of which were dogs.
Sadly, only 22 percent of these animals have been adopted so far.
