SEOUL, July 8 (Korea Bizwire) — South Korean logistics giant CJ Logistics Corp. has signed a deal with two of its clients to launch a new project aimed at promoting the reuse of waste plastics to reduce carbon emissions.
Lock&lock Co., a Seoul-based plastic containers maker, and A Twosome Place, a major coffee shop franchise, will collect the waste plastics and single use cups generated at their workplaces and provide them to CJ Logistics, which will upcycle them into products that can be used in logistics and daily life.
For instance, using the plastic waste generated in Lock&lock’s production process, CJ Logistics is making a ‘carbon-free pallet’ that can be used to move, stack and store goods in logistics warehouses.
Under its partnership with Lock&lock, CJ Logistics developed the new pallet in May, and introduced it at its logistics centers.
It also collects disposable plastic cups used at A Twosome Place shops and sends them to a social venture company that specializes in upcycling plastic cups.
With these activities, the company expects to promote the reuse of about 10 tons of waste plastics during the period from August to November.
