SEOUL, May 26 (Korea Bizwire) – A recent survey conducted in 10 Asian countries including South Korea, China, and Japan showed that half of the region’s young adults in their 20s shopped online more than once per week. In China and South Korea, the ratio rose to two-thirds of the young adult population.

The survey was conducted by Nikkei Research Inc., a research and consulting services provider, on a total of 2,000 young adults in their 20s from Korea (Seoul), China (Shanghai), Japan (Tokyo), India (Mumbai), Indonesia (Jakarta), Taiwan (Bangkok), Vietnam (Hồ Chí Minh), Philippines (Manila), and Malaysia (Kuala Lumpur).

Analysts attributed the trend to the spread of smartphone usage, as well as the widespread improvement of internet connectivity, and the online availability of products unavailable for purchase at offline retailers.

Although a wide range of products were found to be popular among young adults – including makeup, imported items, and even food – the most popular product category was smartphones.

Smartphones, in particular the Apple iPhone and Samsung Galaxy models, reigned as the number one answer to the question “What is the product or service you want to buy the most within the next three years?” among nine countries, and ranked as second only in the Philippines, in which cars ranked first instead. Following smartphones were PC computers, automobiles, trips abroad, and domestic trips.

The statistics varied according to each country, but the overall surge in popularity was unmistakable everywhere. In Japan, for instance, a survey published by the Nihon Keizai Shinbun (The Nikkei) newspaper on May 24, revealed that an average of 49.2 percent of Japanese young adults bought mail order products more than once a week, an increase of 5.7 percent since the last survey conducted in November of 2014.

On the other hand, China was found to have the highest percentage of online shoppers among the 10 surveyed countries, with 68.6 percent of its young adult population shopping online more than once a week, and spending an average of 5.6 hours on the internet every day.

Similar trends were discovered in Seoul, where 66.7 percent of young adults shopped online more than once a week, and Singapore, where more than half of the young adult population made online purchases once a week. In line with this trend, Singaporean online shops even started offering a service last year that promises product delivery within one hour of placing an order.

Mass Texting is a great option for schools and colleges to connect teachers, students and the administration. Teachers can send out messages to students regarding homework, quizzes and schedules. The administration can send notifications to the teachers as well as the students regarding updates like fee reminders, holiday and security alerts in real-time.
