SEOUL, July 11 (Korea Bizwire) – Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Co., a troubled shipbuilder in South Korea, said Tuesday that it has delivered a drill ship, the third of five offshore facilities scheduled for this year.

Daewoo Shipbuilding won a 620 billion-won (US$539 million) deal to build the drill ship for Transocean of the United States.

A drill ship is used for exploratory offshore drilling for new oil and gas wells in deep waters.

The drill ship, 238 meters long and 42 meters wide, is able to drill in waters up to 12 kilometers deep.

Last month, Daewoo Shipbuilding also delivered a fixed offshore platform worth $2.7 billion to a multinational oil firm.

Currently, Daewoo Shipbuilding is working to build 10 offshore platforms.
