SEOUL, May 11 (Korea Bizwire)South Korea’s top mobile messenger operator, Kakao Corp., said Friday it has installed artificial intelligence-recommended content on the first page of a portal website under its wing.

Kakao, which controls Daum, the country’s No. 2 portal, said the recommendations tab was installed on the home page of Daum’s mobile website on Thursday.

The tab was installed above several tabs located on the first page, Kakao said, adding that news headlines will be moved to the right depending on the user’s choice.

The tab carries content that was edited and recommended by Kakao’s AI platform, Kakao I, officials said.

The move came a day after Naver Corp., South Korea’s top portal operator, announced that it will stop editing news articles later this year amid mounting criticism over its neutrality in the wake of a sprawling online opinion rigging scandal.

The scandal centers on allegations that a 48-year-old blogger, who goes by the name Druking, used a computer program to mastermind illegal online opinion rigging. Druking is suspected to have rigged comments on news articles posted on Naver as they can exert considerable impact on public opinion.
