SEOUL, Korea, Oct 21 (Korea Bizwire) – “Dog TV,” the channel for pet dogs, will make a debut in Korea next month. CJ HelloVision, Korea’s cable TV operator, said on October 18 that it would launch a new channel for dogs beginning in early or mid-November. Most programs to be aired on the channel will be American made.
The programs created in the United States have been produced after 400 hours of observation and research on dog behavior. Designed to reduce stress for dogs left home alone, the shows use a lot of blue and yellow color images while avoiding red and green colors as they are color blind to these colors. Wellmade Networks, the licensee for the programs, has been given permissions to rebroadcast the programs by the Ministry of Science, ICT, and Future Planning last month.
A CJ HelloVision official said, “Even though we applied with the ministry early this month to get pricing approval, it is being delayed because of the parliamentary inspection on administrative affairs. We expect the first programming will be aired by mid-November at the latest.”
The monthly charge for the channel will be set at 10,000 won. Wellmade Networks believes that the subscriber numbers will rise to 100,000 given the increasing population of dog owners.
