SEOUL, Aug. 8 (Korea Bizwire) — Dokdo Museum is celebrating its 20th anniversary with special exhibitions that reflect both the past and the future of the island.
From Tuesday, the museum dedicated to the politically-charged isolated island off the east coast of Korea will hold two special exhibitions, with one focusing on the history and development of the facility and the other a photo exhibition depicting Dokdo Island through 20 photographs taken by photographer Han Yong-oe.

After the exhibition comes to an end, all of Han’s works displayed during the exhibition will be donated to the museum, officials said.
Dokdo Museum first opened in August 1997, with the help of Ulleung County officials who provided land and Lee Jong-hak, the first director of the museum, who donated historical materials he had collected his whole life.
Since then, over two million people have traveled to visit the museum to learn the valuable history surrounding the island.

“For 20 years, Dokdo Museum helped protect the island from Japanese efforts to claim it as their own. Through the special exhibitions, we hope to spread the word about Dokdo Island around the world,” said Choi Su-ill, the governor of Ulleung County.
