SEOUL, Jun. 29 (Korea Bizwire)Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction Co. revealed yesterday that it will be spearheading a state power project to develop an 8-megawatt offshore wind farm.

The project, which is estimated to be worth 55 billion won, will be executed over a period of approximately 48 months as part of a collaboration between five business and research organizations including Doosan.

As the leader of the project, Doosan will be in charge of designing, building and monitoring the 8-megawatt facility.

Local company Human Composites will design the turbine blades, while Seil Engineering will be in charge of designing and constructing the foundation structures.

The Korea Institute of Materials Science and Seoul National University round out the five organizations that will be involved in the nation’s largest capacity wind farm project to date, as the structure, upon completion, will be able to generate 8 megawatts of power at an average wind speed of 10 m/s.

The wind turbines will be able to withstand harsh conditions and strong winds of 70 m/s while boasting a high efficiency rate of 30 percent when speeds reach 6.5 m/s.

These features will help the project’s developers to save on electricity costs as installation and power connection expenses will be lowered.

With the project, Doosan Heavy Industries will be able to expand its portfolio of wind farm models by adding the 8-megawatt model to its existing 3-megawatt and 5.5-megawatt models.
