DAEGU, Sept. 29 (Korea Bizwire)The 2017 Daegu Tuning Car Racing Event opens on November 15 at the Korea Intelligent Automotive Parts Promotion Institute.

The first iteration of the drag racing competition was held in 2014 in the hopes that the increased profile of motor sports would lead to increased consumer interest in car tuning (i.e. “hot rodding”).

The races will be organized into two main categories: “time attack” and “best time.” (Image: Yonhap)

Races consist of driving on a 400-meter long straight road. As the rules are simple, the event is a good opportunity for amateurs and hobbyists to rub shoulders with professional drivers.

The number of participants has been steadily increasing. 200 drivers are expected at this year’s event, more than double the 83 that raced in 2014.

The races will be organized into two main categories: “time attack” and “best time.” The winner for time attack races is determined by the driver that finishes closest to the finish line. As its name suggests, best time races are won by the driver that finishes the 400m course fastest.
