SEOUL, Sept. 19 (Korea Bizwire) — FC Seoul’s English midfielder Jesse Lingard has been fined 190,000 won (US$143) for riding an electric scooter in Seoul without a license, police said Thursday.
The fine was imposed after Lingard underwent questioning about his alleged unlicensed e-scooter ride at the Seoul Gangnam Police Station in southern Seoul on Wednesday, police said.
He was accused of driving an e-scooter without a license and a helmet, exceeding the maximum number of passengers and driving in the wrong direction, based on his statement and a video he posted on his Instagram page Monday, they said.
Police also looked into whether Lingard was driving under the influence but reportedly concluded that whether or not he was, it was virtually impossible to punish him for it as too much time has passed.
Lingard offered an apology in another Instagram post Tuesday, saying he was not aware of South Korean rules related to e-scooters.
