JEJU, Jan. 17 (Korea Bizwire) — Fewer people are expected to travel to the southern resort island of Jeju over the Lunar New Year holiday compared to years prior, the Jeju Tourism Organization said Monday.
The tourism organization expects that some 188,000 people will travel to Jeju between Jan. 20-24 by air or sea, down by 7.6 percent from last year.
As airlines continue to expand the number of international flights, domestic flights have shrunk by 6.7 percent and passenger seats decreased by 11.7 percent compared to last year.
The number of trips by ship increased by 26.2 percent from last year.
“Despite the struggling economy, revenge consumption demand for foreign travel has surged, resulting in more people traveling to neighboring regions like Southeast Asia or Japan,” the Jeju Tourism Organization said.
