SEOUL, July 30 (Korea Bizwire) — The finance ministry said Wednesday it has briefed President Lee Jae Myung on plans to adopt a “performance-based” fiscal management approach aimed at enhancing investment efficiency and fiscal sustainability.
The report was delivered during the third meeting of the emergency economic response task force, presided over by Lee. The meeting brought together presidential aides, relevant government agencies and working-level officials.
Under the plan, the government will make bold fiscal investments in sectors with high potential for measurable outcomes, with the goal of improving investment returns and overall productivity.
The strategy is designed to support economic recovery and growth while reinforcing fiscal soundness, creating a virtuous cycle of sustainable public finance, according to the finance ministry.
The ministry also emphasized its intention to enhance accountability and performance while granting greater autonomy to each ministry and local governments.
In addition, the ministry pledged to encourage public institutions and state-funded research organizations to contribute more actively to national strategic agendas.
