SEOUL, March 20 (Korea Bizwire) — The average number of dates increases in proportion to income, a recent study revealed.
DUO, a matchmaking agency, conducted a survey of 1,000 single adults in South Korea, recording a happiness score of 54.03 points out of 100, which was down by 1.67 points since last year.
The score is the lowest since 2015. Male and female respondents scored 52.7 points and 55.35 points, respectively.
As for what influences happiness, 40.5 percent of respondents picked economic stability, followed by physical health (26.7 percent), occupational success (14.9 percent), and love between a couple or family members (13 percent).
Happiness among singles depended on whether they were dating or not. Couples on a date, particularly those anticipating marriage, were happier than those without a partner.
Dating couples looking forward to getting married scored 54.89 happiness points. Singles without a partner scored 53.33 points, lower than average.

Couples, by average, went out on dates 3.25 times per year. People making less than 20 million won (US$16,000) dated 1.72 times.
Those making 30 to 40 million won went out 3.72 times, and people making more than 50 million won dated 4.48 times.
As for the appropriate period to wait before engaging in sexual intercourse, 37.8 percent of male respondents and 27.4 percent of female respondents said they would have sex less than one month after the relationship began.
Only 11 percent said they would abstain from sex before getting married.
