SEOUL, April 13 (Korea Bizwire) – BHC Co., a local fried chicken franchise operator, said Friday it will invest 17 billion won (US$16 million) to create jobs for young people as the country struggles with high youth unemployment rate.
The company said it will lend 15 billion won to young people to open branches of the fried chicken franchise free of interest and spend another 2 billion won in supporting their employment.
BHC said it will lend 50 million to 200 million won per store with a 10-year repayment period.
The franchise operator expects 120 to 150 new stores to open under the policy, creating 500 to 600 new jobs.
The announcement came as the Seoul government pushes to tackle the jobless rate among young people.
President Moon Jae-in has called for an all-out effort to create quality jobs and said the country’s high youth jobless rate is a national disaster.
