G-Star Gaming Festival Kicks Off in Busan

SEOUL, Nov. 15 (Korea Bizwire)Organized by KOTRA, the annually held “G-Star” gaming extravaganza in Busan will open on November 16.

This year’s four-day event is expected to be the busiest yet, with 2,758 requests submitted for booths as of last September. Since it was founded in 2005, this year marks the first time that organizers have had to close the application timeline for B2C booths early.

In another first, it was announced that game developer Nexon will fill the role of main sponsor for “G-Star 2017”. The company that supports hits like FPS “Sudden Attack” and online RPG “Maple Story”, Nexon is one of the three leaders in the domestic game industry by revenue – the other two being Netmarble and NCsoft.

Operating 300 booths, Nexon will showcase nine new computer and mobile games, among them “EA Sports FIFA Online 4”, which has driven up consumer anticipation.

Other prominent games publishers set to make an appearance are Netmarble and Bluehole, the company behind the unexpected success “PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds”. The Battle Royale-esque multiplayer game has sold over 20 million copies since its March 23 release on games platform Steam. 

Also slated to take place at G-Star 2017 is the WEGL’s first major tournament. Hosted by Actozsoft, the World Esports Games & Leagues finals will include globally recognized games like “Overwatch”, “Minecraft”, “Hearthstone” and “Starcraft: Remastered”, with over 200 million won in prize money.

A separate “2017 Battlegrounds Asia Invitational” will see one of twenty winning teams from seven different countries take home the top prize of 300 million won.

G-Star 2017 will be held at the Busan Exhibition and Convention Center (BEXCO).
