SEOUL, March 11 (Korea Bizwire)A famous rubber duck gained immense popularity in Korea between October and November 2014, but what happened to the giant pile of yellow polyvinyl that was nothing more than industrial waste? Lotte Department Store brought new life to the waste by ‘upcycling‘ the polyvinyl, in collaboration with design group Fabrikr, and will hold an exhibition featuring 24 rocking chairs made out of the rubber duck material from March 10 to 31 at the Lotte Gallery in Lotte Department Store’s Yeongdeungpo Branch. The rocking chairs are presented in a room designed to make visitors feel like they are floating on water.

Six mini-rubber duck shaped chairs for children have also been installed in the rooftop garden of the store building. Any remaining material will be made into small souvenirs for the store’s customers. The rubber duck had been destined to be disposed of as industrial waste if it didn’t find a new home within three months after its withdrawal from Seokchon Lake.
