SEOUL, July 8 (Korea Bizwire)Girls’ Generation, one of the top South Korean girl groups, swept various music charts at home and other Asian countries Wednesday after making a long-awaited return to the music scene.

The album’s title piece “Party” topped eight Korean music services, including Genie, Melon and Mnet, as of 9 a.m. Wednesday, hours after the album was released Tuesday night.

The group also proved its status as one of the top K-pop groups by landing at No. 1 on iTunes singles charts of seven Asian regions, including Hong Kong, Thailand, Singapore and Vietnam.

The single has two songs — “Party,” a fresh and joyful summer pop song, and “Check,” a sexy and rhythmic R&B song. “Check” also ranked highly on those charts.

It was the first album that has ever been released by the group since the last studio album “Mr. Mr.” in February 2014.

After the single, the group plans to drop a full-length album that has “Lion Heart” and “You Think” as double title tracks.

The single has drawn much attention for being the first album after the departure of member Jessica in September last year. The move made it an eight-member group.

Taeyeon, leader of the team, said during a news conference Tuesday that the change rather served as a chance to make the team stronger.

“We want to hear the people say Girls’ Generation didn’t let us down,” she said. “We want to be a group that pleases many people.”
