SEOUL, May 12 (Korea Bizwire) – Representing the old and new idol groups, GOD and EXO play a tug-of-war to rule the K-pop charts.
Just after one day when the “new” idol group EXO released the tracks in its second mini album “Overdose” which took the No. 1 place in 10 music streaming sites on May 7, the “old” idol group GOD overtook the place with its new song “The Lone Duckling” and calmed the storm of EXO.
The competition between the two idol groups will be accelerated. EXO began its appearances in various TV shows. Considering the fact that EXO enjoyed popularity by showing its retrained group dances in the TV shows, it is expected to regain the No. 1 position in the charts.
Meanwhile, the five-member group GOD has no plan to debut its new song in the TV shows. But, as GOD announced that it will donate the profits from “The Lone Duckling” to help the bereaved families from the sunken ferry Sewol, it is expected to gain continuous support in the time of national mourning.
The music industry welcomed the competition between the two idols as it entered into the stagnation period due to the tragic accident. Also, as the fandoms for the two idol groups are divided into teens and early 20s for EXO and later 20s and 30s for GOD, the industry expects the expansion of the overall pie in the music market.
