JEJU, Feb. 8 (Korea Bizwire) — The number of visitors to golf courses on the southern resort island of Jeju is declining as overseas flights have resumed and golfers look abroad, data showed Tuesday.
According to data from Jeju’s provincial government, the number of visitors to the island’s 32 golf courses stood at 253,453 in November 2022, down 9.5 percent from a year earlier.
Of the total, the number of golf tourists who visited the island from other regions stood at 166,755, down 18.6 percent year on year.
The number of visitors to Jeju golf courses has been on a downward trend starting from May 2022, marking a negative year-on-year growth of 9.2 percent in May, 15.7 percent in June, 6.3 percent in July and 6.7 percent in October.
The number of such visitors peaked at 2,898,742 in 2021 when golfers avoided overseas trips for fear of COVID-19. This figure was up 21.6 percent from a year ago.
In particular, golf tourists who visited the island from other regions totaled 1,852,067 in 2021, up 46.1 percent year on year.
