SEOUL, Aug. 3 (Korea Bizwire)The government plans to allocate a budget of 10 billion won (US$7.71 million) this year to partially subsidize the installation of doors on open-type refrigerators at supermarkets and convenience stores.

The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy said Wednesday it will start accepting applications for participation in the refrigerator door installation support project next week.

Under this initiative, when small businesses and retailers choose to install doors on their open-type refrigerators or upgrade to new refrigerators, the government intends to offer financial support of 259,000 won per square meter, which is about 40 percent of the installation cost.

Additionally, the government has earmarked 30 billion won to cover 40 percent of the expenses incurred when small businesses and merchants opt to replace their old air-conditioning or heating systems with new ones that have top-tier energy consumption efficiency.

Since the project’s launch, aimed at replacing about 19,000 air-conditioning and heating systems, it has received more than 4,150 applications.
