SEOUL, April 14 (Korea Bizwire) — The government will open the way for graduates from non-engineering majors to undergo intensive training related to semiconductors for one year and obtain a job at related companies, the education ministry said Thursday.
The Ministry of Education and the Korea Institute for Advancement of Technology announced the basic plan for a boot camp to cultivate skilled employees for state-of-the-art industries and invited universities to participate in the program.
The program is aimed at enabling students with various backgrounds to take an intensive training course operated jointly by universities and businesses and obtain a job at high-tech companies.
The ministry plans to select a total of ten universities this year, consisting of five general universities and five community colleges, and extend financial support of 15 billion won (US$11.5 million) over the next five years.
The graduates of the program will earn degree certificates jointly issued by universities and businesses. They will also receive employment benefits from participating businesses.
The government plans to finalize the list of participating universities by June and enable them to launch the operation of short-term, intensive educational programs in the summer semester.
