SEOUL, Aug. 12 (Korea Bizwire) – The South Korean government plans to offer up to 600,000 won (US$543) to young job seekers as part of a broader package to tackle youth unemployment and prop up growth, officials said Friday.
To those under the age of 34, who are “actively” seeking jobs, the government plans to offer 200,000 won a month for a period of three months, officials at the ministry of employment and labor said.
The financial support is intended to help those from low-income households cover the costs for taking photos for job applications and renting suits for interviews, and for transportation and other activities to land jobs, officials said.
Some 24,000 people are expected to benefit from the support program, which is projected to cost around 7.4 billion won.
The ministry, in cooperation with the state-run Youth Hope Foundation, will craft details related to the support program this month before implementing it in September.
