SEOUL, Jul. 12 (Korea Bizwire) — The Ministry of Science and ICT has received a special regulatory exemption to test run an app-based voluntary taxi-sharing service.
Kornatus, a South Korean taxi-sharing service provider, will test run an application app that hails taxis with other passengers who are going to a similar destination.
Between 10 p.m. and 4 a.m., when demand for taxis is high, people won’t have to wait for an empty cab to pass by.
At an affordable cost, the new service will hail taxis carrying other passengers who are going in the same direction or to the same destination.
The ministerial committee decided to allow a special exemption for the new service, upon the condition that the test run is conducted only for Seoul taxis in Gangnam, Jongno, and other areas where cabs are particularly difficult to hail.
The committee also asked that a system be established to ensure the safety of all users and come up with measures to prevent various illegal activities.
The committee also gave a special exemption to a shared kitchen restaurant initiative proposed by The Simple Project Company, a shared kitchen platform provider.
This initiative will involve multiple food businesses sharing a kitchen and engaging in the business-to-business distribution and sale of all products.
