SEOUL, Nov. 8 (Korea Bizwire) – The government will revise laws and regulations in a way that facilitates the use of self-driving cars, such as changing the definition of drivers, officials said Thursday.
The move is part of efforts to preemptively remove regulations that could impede the development and commercialization of self-driving cars, considered one of the promising industries of the future.
The government has identified 30 regulatory issues that must be improved through revision of dozens of laws and regulations, including the motor vehicle management act, the road act and the road traffic act, officials said.
They include redefining the definition of drivers, adjust obligations and responsibilities in self-driving situations, and removing various restrictions, such as the bans on the use of mobile phones and on vehicle platooning, officials said.
