Gwanak District in Seoul Launches ‘Trash-Tag Challenge’ to Clean Up Garbage

SEOUL, Apr. 26 (Korea Bizwire)The district of Gwanak in Seoul announced on Thursday that it will hold a ‘Trash-Tag Challenge’ to encourage residents to clean up public areas until May 24.

Trash-tag is a combination of the words “trash” and “tag,” a term used on social media for tagging keywords.

The Trash-Tag Challenge initiative aims to encourage citizens to clean up trash that has accumulated in public places, and share “before and after” photos with hashtags on social media.

The challenge, which combines environmental protection activities and play, has so far been followed by about 70,000 certifications worldwide.

To participate in the Trash-Tag Challenge in Gwanak District, citizens can take photos of garbage before cleaning, and photos of garbage bags after cleaning up.

After posting the photos on personal social media accounts, one can send a brief description and location of the cleaning to official Facebook and Instagram accounts, or e-mail organizers (preludeaa@ga.go.kr).

The district plans to select 100 people through a random draw and announce the winners on May 28, with those selected receiving 10,000 won (US$8.60) mobile gift cards that can be used at convenience stores.
