SEOUL, May 6 (Korea Bizwire)Hanwha Life Insurance Co. announced that one of the company’s training facilities has ended its two-year use as a treatment center for COVID-19 patients.

Hanhwa’s Life Park, located in Yongin, Gyeonggi Province, has reopened its quarters for 35 new recruits for training this year.

Following the end of the facility’s role as a local quarantine facility on April 22, the facility has gone through a series of repairs and disinfection procedures to return to its original use of training new employees.

In 2020, Hanwha offered to use the facility to accommodate virus patients, becoming the first local treatment center in Gyeonggi Province.

Some 200 guest rooms inside Life Park have since been used to treat some 8,000 patients from the greater Seoul area.

Large conglomerates like Hanwha, SK, Samsung and Hyundai have been offering their employee training institutes to be used as local treatment centers to overcome the lack of hospital beds.

As home treatment continues to expand, the government is gradually shutting down local treatment centers.

The Central Disaster Management Headquarters announced last month that, by early May, the number of local treatment centers will be reduced to one facility per region, with two facilities retained as headquarters, reducing hospital beds to some 2,400 beds throughout the 12 facilities nationwide.
