SEOUL, June 12 (Korea Bizwire) – Hankook Tire said on June 10 that it held a groundbreaking ceremony for the Hankook Tire Techno Dome in Daejeon to be used as the tire maker’s new central research center. Hankook Tire will aspire to become a global top-tier tire brand based on the R&D effort to be made in the facility.
At the cost of 266.6 billion won, the Techno Dome will symbolize its commitment to make state-of-the-art tires that are safer and more environmentally friendly. The five-story dome will be completed by 2016, with the total building floor space of 70,387 square meters. The Dome has been designed by Foster and Partners, a London-based architectural firm famous for its founder and chairman Norman Foster.
The center will be equipped with 90 labs in which new compounds and products will be tested, with amenities such as healthcare centers, entertainment rooms, and sports facilities. In addition, the building will aim to get the Gold rating from the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) for environmental friendliness.
Together with the Hankook Tire Test Engineering Center to be built in Sangju, North Gyeongsang Province, the Techno Dome will play the role of leading future tire technology development efforts while helping the company’s initiative to improve the quality of tires. The test engineering center will be completed by 2018.
