SEOUL, June 2 (Korea Bizwire) – South Koreans think of health as the most important aspect of quality of life, according to a recent survey.

The survey by World Research was conducted at the request of the Smart Health Management Strategy Lab at Seoul National University, with the aim of creating a quality of life index based on a number of elements ranging from family, health, education and life satisfaction, to income and safety.

During the survey, respondents were asked to score each element on a scale of zero to ten based on its importance.

Health was the most important factor when it came to measuring one’s quality of life, reaching the highest score of 9.2, while family and safety followed close behind with scores 8.9 and 8.6, respectively.

Life satisfaction, income and education were also considered among the most important.

When asked how satisfied they were currently, respondents were content with their life regarding family, health and human relations while the opposite was true where income and work were concerned.

“As greater emphasis is being placed on the importance of quality of life, the government should not only consider economic indicators but also pay attention to quality of life indexes in policymaking,” said Professor Yun Yeong-ho at Seoul National University’s College of Medicine.

The survey was conducted with a sample of 1,200 South Korean citizens during the month of March.
