SEOUL, Korea, Feb 7 (Korea Bizwire) – Hyundai Engineering & Construction Corp. said on February 5 that it has introduced an “intelligent multi-grouting system” capable of grouting in multiple locations at the same time. Grouting is a construction technique used in almost all construction sites to embed rebars in masonry walls, connect sections of pre-cast concrete, fill voids, and seal joints.
The existing grouting methods have often caused problem of cracks when the mixture of water, cement, sand, color tint, and sometimes fine gravel is not balanced properly.
In order to address this limitation, the company has begun an R&D project on the issue since 2009 in an effort to come up with solutions applicable to extreme construction conditions pressure and temperature such as underwater tunnels.
The newly developed technique can finely control grouting pressure and liquid flow volume so that the workmen can minimize damages to nearby structures while improving the ground reinforcing quality to the max. It could also cut the construction time up to 40 percent through the new grouting technology.
Hyundai E&C has already secured a patent to the technique, with a new construction technique certification (No. 718) given out by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transportation. Since last year, the company has successfully used the new grouting method in building the Boryeong-Taean underwater tunnel connecting the Daecheon Port and Wonsan Island in South Chungcheong Province and could cut off the inflow of sea water inside the tunnel.
