SEOUL, Sept. 2 (Korea Bizwire) — Hyundai Department Store said Monday it will stage a special “The Hyundai Global Stage” at the upcoming Tokyo Girls Collection (TGC), marking the first time the Japanese fashion showcase will dedicate a runway to Korean brands.
The event, set for Sept. 6 at Saitama Super Arena near Tokyo, is Japan’s largest fashion spectacle, drawing an estimated 20,000 attendees in person and more than 5 million online viewers. Unlike traditional runway shows, TGC blends fashion with performances from idol groups and global artists, making it a cultural touchstone for Japan’s trend-conscious teens and young adults.
Hyundai’s participation was arranged at the request of W TOKYO, the organizer of TGC, after the retailer’s “The Hyundai Global” export platform — featuring Korean brands through pop-up stores in Japan — proved a strong success.
Four Korean labels — Trimming Bird, Rest & Recreation, The Barnet, and Ohesio — will present signature looks from their Fall/Winter 2025 collections. Hyundai said the lineup was curated to resonate with the individuality-driven tastes of Japan’s Generation Z while highlighting each brand’s unique style identity.
W TOKYO praised the collaboration as more than a commercial tie-up, calling it “a cultural bridge between Korea and Japan” that could enrich Asia’s broader fashion landscape.
Hyundai Department Store added it intends to leverage the platform not as a one-off showcase but as a foundation for sustained overseas expansion. “We aim to help K-fashion brands secure a stable presence in international markets through systematic and long-term support,” a company official said.
