ULSAN, Jan. 21 (Korea Bizwire) South Korean shipbuilder Hyundai Heavy Industries Co. announced on Wednesday that it had succeeded in lifting a 9,100-ton ultra-large offshore facility using a floating crane.

The company said that its 10,000-ton floating crane ‘Hyundai-10000’ recently lifted the topside of the King’s Quay semi-submersible floating production system (FPS) at its shipyard in Ulsan, 414 kilometers southeast of Seoul.

The topside was later fabricated and installed onto the hull.

The weight of the topside is 9,100 tons, which is equivalent to the weight of 6,200 mid-sized cars, the heaviest weight ever lifted by a single floating crane in South Korea.

The King’s Quay is a semi-submersible FPS that the company signed to build for the U.S. oil exploration and production company Murphy Oil Corp. in 2018.

Hyundai Heavy officials noted that employing the crane to lift the topside had allowed the company to significantly shorten the construction period.
