SEOUL, Aug. 13 (Korea Bizwire) – Hyundai Motor, South Korea’s leading automaker, is set to pioneer the use of electronic paper beacon ID badges, marking a significant step towards sustainable and secure workplace access.
The company announced on August 13 that it has filed a patent for ID badges incorporating electronic ink LCD displays. Hyundai plans to gradually implement these advanced badges across its domestic and international facilities, starting with its headquarters in Yangjae, Seoul.
These cutting-edge ID badges utilize electronic ink technology on LCD displays, allowing for easy modification and updating of personal information. This feature enables long-term use of the badges, potentially reducing plastic waste associated with traditional ID cards.
One of the key advantages of the new system is its ability to display visitor information, including affiliation, name, and photograph, directly on the LCD screen. This eliminates the need for additional identity verification processes, as security personnel can visually confirm identities at a glance.
Hyundai has also integrated advanced security features into the badges. If a visitor attempts to enter an unauthorized area, the badge will emit an alarm sound and the LCD display will turn red, facilitating more systematic security management.
The company has not overlooked safety considerations in its design. The reverse side of the badge includes an SOS button, enabling quick response in case of emergencies.
Han Tae-kwon, a manager in Hyundai’s security planning and operations team, expressed optimism about the new technology. “We expect these new ID badges will not only improve convenience for visitors to Hyundai facilities but also strengthen our overall security and safety management,” he said.
