SEOUL, March 30 (Korea Bizwire)Hyundai Oilbank Co., a major refiner in South Korea, said Monday that it will take the initiative to expand the scope of its eco-friendly management practices, including boosting investment in eco-friendly facilities.

The company announced it would establish solar power generation facilities at idle spaces inside its logistics centers for petrochemical products.

The power supply systems for logistics centers, which consume the second largest amount of electricity behind production factories, will be adapted into eco-friendly models.

The company plans to generate additional revenue by selling the remainder of the electricity generated under the new plan.

At present, Hyundai Oilbank runs a total of eight logistics centers across the country. The company is now in the process of seeking approval to conduct pilot tests at two locations – one in Seoul and the other in a rural region.

Furthermore, Hyundai Oilbank also intends to expand the installation of the gas station soil pollution prevention system Hyundai Holmes that monitors oil leakage on a real time basis through special detection sensors installed on gas pump pipes.

The company intends to install Hyundai Holmes at another 150 directly-run gas stations this year, while also subsidizing the cost of installation at privately-run gas stations.

Hyundai Oilbank also said that it will increase the importance of its eco-friendly fuel ventures among its overall operations.

To this end, it will increase the number of electric vehicle charging stations from the current 20 to 200 by 2023, while boosting the number of hydrogen charging stations to 180 by 2030.
