SEOUL, Aug. 31 (Korea Bizwire) — Hyundai Motor Group announced on Wednesday the completion of an initiative aimed at projecting and addressing future transportation demand within Singapore’s flagship smart industrial park, the Jurong Innovation District (JID).
Spanning a 10-month period from April 2022 to January 2023, this endeavor was undertaken in collaboration with the Jurong Urban Corporation (JTC), following the signing of the ‘Transportation Demand Analysis Memorandum of Understanding’ (MOU) in January last year.
The JID stands as a hub primed for the implementation of diverse smart city solutions.
Notably, Hyundai sought a sustained transportation system for the Bulim area, home to the Hyundai Motor Group Singapore Global Innovation Center (HMGICS).
Throughout the course of the project, Hyundai analyzed key attributes of the JID, encompassing factors like population dynamics, traffic patterns, and development blueprints.
This analysis formed the basis for prognosticating future transportation requisites, culminating in the proposition of individualized mobility plans for operation.
JTC, an authoritative governmental body responsible for the planning, growth, and administration of industrial parks and associated amenities in Singapore, extended an array of public and private data including traffic assessments, geographical insights, population statistics, and employment particulars.
Drawing insights from the data sourced via JTC, Hyundai’s assessment indicated a projected increase in transportation demand within the vicinity over the next decade, overwhelming the capacity of public transit.
Furthermore, both parties conducted comprehensive surveys and interviews involving over 1,300 residents within the Jurong Innovation District as well as employees of tenant enterprises.
This initiative was undertaken to garner perceptions concerning public transportation and preferred modes of transit.
Leveraging these insights, Hyundai undertook a comprehensive 10-year simulation integrating a spectrum of transportation alternatives, ranging from demand-responsive mobility to autonomous robotaxis, roboshuttles amalgamating robotics with shuttle services, and personalized mobility solutions.
Ultimately, the analysis identified the roboshuttle as the optimum choice, balancing user convenience and transportation efficiency.
Hyundai underscored the significance of this project, highlighting its ability to strategize smart urban services that cater to both infrastructure and transportation prerequisites.
The ramifications extend beyond Singapore, with the project poised to serve as a blueprint for novel mobility services, enhancing customer contentment and traffic efficacy across diverse global locales.
“This collaboration marks Hyundai Motor Group’s inaugural initiative with JTC in Singapore, offering invaluable insights into ongoing and future mobility paradigms within the JID,” said Kim Hye-young, Vice President and Head of Smart City Planning Group of Hyundai Motor Group.
“It’s poised to act as a cornerstone for smart city undertakings in Singapore’s burgeoning complex landscape.”
